IN CHARACTER
Name: Anon/The Monitor
Canon: Tron
Canon Point: Deresolution via recognizer.
Age: 'Adult'. 1 day.
History: Happily we know his entire life from rez to derezz.
Personality: First and foremost, the monitor is NOT a hero. Heroism implies doing things out of a motivation like altruism or sheer goodness, no matter the personal cost, and this simply isn't something the monitor does. All things he does are with a clear purpose beyond 'because it's the right thing to do', often with direct orders to go along with it.. or suggestions from others that just translate in his mind to orders. These he will carry out even if it means his own deresolution with determined, stubborn persistence until he accomplishes his goal or simply can't keep going any longer, and those goals generally align with things people would call good, but he's not a hero. He won't sacrifice everything to save the damsel (unless he has directions to), he doesn't indulge in revenge for the sake of revenge, and he absolutely will not jump into a disadvantageous situation if he isn't certain he can win ... and again, has no orders to the contrary.
This doesn't mean he's a bad program either, he's just very ... goal oriented, and happiest when he has a clear purpose to pursue; and when he does have that purpose to pursue he does so with relentless determination. Left on his own without any directions at all he inevitably gravitates towards trying to quell dissent, preserve life and aid those he considers part of his System, but if those same people he was just preserving were between himself and an obvious threat to said System they ... might get a little banged up if they don't get out of his way quickly. In the grand hierarchy of Doing His Job, eliminating a threat ranks a bit higher than saving innocents. In fact, so does following his directions and generally doing his outlined directives at the time. He won't go out of his way to hurt anyone who ISN'T a threat, in fact the very opposite, it's just that his priority system is very fixed for the time being and some things are lower on the ladder than other things.
Which circles back to the 'orders' thing. The monitor takes directions exceptionally well, and executes those directions with as much speed and precision as he is capable of managing. While not everyone can order him around, in fact most people can't, and he can and will consider anything like an order and possibly reject it if it's not from the User Flynn, he tends to react to his friends and associates' suggestions pretty much exactly the way he reacts to orders most of the time anyway,. Thus is really easy to get to do pretty much anything if he likes the person doing the asking, or at least has no reason to implicitly distrust them. This has been used against him a couple of times, most glaringly by Gibson, who didn't even hesitate to take advantage of him, even with his own good intentions.
The monitor doesn't really have a reason to distrust anyone who isn't currently glowing red, yellow or gold, so this occasionally runs him into trouble.
Being that focused on his goals isn't necessarily all robotic obedience however. He knows what he is, where he's going and what he's meant to do, and that lends him a certain rock-solid unshakable stability that others might only be able to envy. And it serves him well: he's rarely plagued with doubt, and the swings of rage and hate very rarely trouble him either. It lets him assess most situations rationally and with a hefty dose of simple common sense even in the middle of pure chaos most of the time, and while things do catch him by surprise this will rarely ever end in true panic.
If he ever had the time, the monitor would have developed beyond this, but life is inevitably short and his was cut down before he could even experience anything like leisure. He is capable of far more, including a deep and abiding loyalty to those he cares about that has nothing to do with programming or simple loyalty to his User. Those that earn his loyalty may find it's almost impossible afterward to convince him he was ever wrong about that person. Had he had a little longer, Gibson would surely have qualified; he's fond of the now-dead ISO, and the memory of him is bittersweet at best. Which means only his User really gets a lot of personal loyalty while others had been making inroads towards it; he's obedient to the point of nearly not even thinking twice when it comes to Flynn handing out 'requests'. While he certainly does have emotions, and does act on them, for the most part he'll still prefer the course of logic and common sense over the whims of the moment, though it can also be said he doesn't have to really indulge in whims and emotional decisions when those choices frequently get made for him by those he surrounds himself with; whether or not he prefers sense, sense tends to go right out the window anyway.
While pretty much all of the time the monitor seems to be fixed in a serious mindset and serious goals, quite a lot of the time this ... isn't what's actually going on behind the helmet. He's certainly working towards whatever goal he has with persistence and tireless effort, but how he gets there is frequently less straight line than whatever path is more interesting. He is fond of having fun, and will find ways to work it into whatever is going on when he can ... even though he'll deny even to himself that this is what he's doing. Flynn's influence runs deep, and there is much to be enjoyed in life. .. So long as it also happens to be part of what needs to get done anyway. Even simply practicing his combat skills will inevitably be done in such a way as to entertain him as well as keep him in top form. After all, Tron indulged in the Games, and his newest monitor is just as happy to indulge when he can.
Unfortunately, the monitor has existed for the grand total of a day, and further development and expansion into interests or even firm relationships with others simply... hasn't had time yet. He won't be much interested in hearing anything like his ideas or worldview or perspective on himself might be a little skewed (or a lot in some cases..), and sooner or later that's sure to arise in one form or another.
Abilities/Skills: The monitor is a prototype system monitor, designed for combat as much as anything else, which means he is very, very good at what he does.. when he has time to polish his skills. He has been written to excel in adaption, and given enough time there's very little he can't figure out how to get around or bull his way through when it comes to fighting. Perhaps it'll take a bit, but inevitably stubborn persistence wins out. He's far sturdier, swifter and stronger than most unagumented/unpowered humans, able to run across walls, make fifty meter jumps, and survive damage that even most other programs can't hope to. It took being hit by a crashing recognizer to finally take him out. He has a high grade set of sensors that let him detect what sort of being he's dealing with and occasionally even an idea of their capabilities, though these are not foolproof. He enjoys a rather high amount of upgrades and variability in disk combat, able to create stasis fields, much more powerful attacks or even localized explosions when using the right mod. He favors explosions, but can only use one at a time. One such mod also allows him complete untrackable stealth .. so long as he doesn't move.
As a program he has no need for air, food, sleep, or water (though the occasional down cycle of rest doesn't hurt, and he still requires energy to exist), doesn't bleed, can't catch biological illnesses, and in experienced hands can recover near instantly from even crippling injuries... though this does absolutely require the outside aid of a skilled programmer who knows what the heck they're doing to his code.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Adaptable, persistent, resilient, annoyingly good at combat.
Weaknesses: He's literally a day old, stubborn, obedient to the point of deresolution, has certain kneejerk reactions to programs in red or yellow, that 'one day old' thing really does need to be emphasized twice.
Items: His armor and outfit, 1 lightcycle baton, his disk
SAMPLES
Network Sample: [The monitor has at least, done a LITTLE research before switching on the network. Time for things he can't find out from that helpful but not particularly thorough welcome earlier. At least now he knows what planets and solar systems even are..]
Requesting information.
I have been informed this is 'Avagi Station'. Where is this specifically? What planet does it orbit? What solar system?
What is the current population? My scans are not displaying properly.
Where may energy panels be found? If anything else of specific use to a program can be suggested, please do so.
Prose/Action Sample: I have some tdm over here.
OOC NOTE: I have read the FAQ thing that says I may not talk about or RP with my own alt. This will be easily accomplished, and I do not feel it will be an issue going forward.
